The Haunting of Keystone

Get spooky during the annual Haunting of Keystone Halloween Celebration. Hosted by the Keystone Chamber of Commerce, this event takes place on weekends in October. There are multiple haunted houses scattered throughout the town of Keystone. Locations include the Keystone Schoolhouse, Big Thunder Mine, and Rush Mountain to name a few. “The Haunt”, as locals know it, is non-profit event with all proceeds helping members in the community.

Creating the Scare

Volunteers are always welcomed. Including scare actors, prop & set builders, makeup artists, and support staff. No tricks, only treats for participants! In addition to the satisfaction of scaring people, volunteers get rewards for their help. All volunteers receive a free meal on show nights, entry into a drawing for cash & prizes, and a gas stipend for those who come from out of town. Plus, volunteers who work for three or more nights will receive an official Haunting of Keystone Staff t-shirt, a special goodie bag, and a complimentary Rush Mountain Adventure Park ticket.

The theme of the haunt changes annually creating a unique experience every year. In 2018, Traveler magazine and South Dakota Video Tours created a spooktacular projection display for the Keystone Schoolhouse. What will they come up with next? Head to Keystone in October to see for yourself.
